Gliaworks by Crystal A Ruff (University Health Network, Toronto)

Description: Whorls and swirls characterize this turbulent piece, created by subcortical transplant of pluripotent-derived primitive neural precursors. Cells expand within the tissue and protrude outward, similar to the pyrotechnic explosions witnessed on a cool summer’s night. Stem cells are marked by enhanced yellow fluorescent protein; myelin basic protein is red and neurofilament is blue in this image.
