Right Turn: Biting into some incredible art

Author: Lisa Willemse, 04/12/13

Developmental biologists among you may be aware that voting in the Node’s image competition wrapped this week. Five wonderful images were in the running for the cover on a future issue of Development – and bragging rights, of course. I discovered the contest too late to cast my own vote, but thought I’d include my favourite in this week’s Right Turn. While perhaps not the most visually arresting of the entries, this one depicting the dental organ of a corn snake really got me looking close. How cool is it to see the snake’s dental stem cells (stained red)?

If you also missed this contest, all is not lost: the Stem Cell Network launched its 5th Cells I See art contest just a few short days ago. Send in your entries and stay tuned for online voting this fall!

Our regular feature, Right Turn, showcases the “lighter” side of stem cells and regenerative medicine. Every Friday, we will bring you cartoons, photos, videos and other content that may be just as thought provoking as the written submissions that you are used to finding here, but they definitely won’t be blogs.

As always, we welcome your feedback and we also welcome suitable submissions. Be creative! Use the right (!) side of your brain. Make us laugh! Let’s see if we can make this new direction a positive one for all of us. Send your submission to info(at)ccrm.ca.
