Stem cells as art is becoming a recurring theme on Signals. If you want to admire some beautiful stem cell art, there’s Klair Reis’ petri projects, Radha Chaddah’s beautiful photography here, and stem cell images are featured every week on Signals near the bottom of the screen. The images in the Photo of the Week are entries from four years of Cells I See, a contest created by our friends at the Stem Cell Network. CCRM is carrying on the tradition that began in 2009 and is pleased to invite all legal residents of Canada, 18 years and older, to participate. Please visit http://cellsisee.ccrm.ca for contest rules and submission guidelines. There is prize money involved (!) and we’re accepting submissions until September 15th, 2014 only. Past entries have been featured at art galleries, science exhibits, magazine covers, calendars, post cards and web sites. CCRM’s scientists aren’t eligible to participate in Cells I See, but they held a low-key, internal competition to share their cellular and biomaterials images. You can see their work below. We are eager to see your artistic efforts.

Our regular feature, Right Turn, showcases the “lighter” side of stem cells and regenerative medicine. Every Friday, we will bring you cartoons, photos, videos and other content that may be just as thought provoking as the written submissions that you are used to finding here, but they definitely won’t be blogs. As always, we welcome your feedback and we also welcome suitable submissions. Be creative! Use the right (!) side of your brain. Make us laugh! Let’s see if we can make this new direction a positive one for all of us. Send your submission to info(at)ccrm.ca.
