Hopefully this is a happy Friday for you and Mother Nature has sent you a healthy dose of spring to acknowledge the date on the calendar. Regardless, whether you are rejoicing in warmer temperatures and reveling in bird song or cursing vile weather as you layer appropriately, Right Turn is feeling optimistic and has a song in its heart – actually seven – to welcome the new season ahead.

BioTechniques, “The International Journal of Life Science Methods,” will soon be announcing which lab parody video won its 2014 Lab Grammys. I’d like to acknowledge the masterful folks in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC-Berkeley who came up with “Lab God,” a parody of “Rap God” by Eminem. Having made my own feeble attempt at creating stem cell rap lyrics to an Eminem song, I applaud their success. I’m giving runner-up to the Calgary, Alberta team because they’re, well, Canadian. Yes, I’m biased.

You can watch all the entries here. Which one is your favourite?

Our regular feature, Right Turn, showcases the “lighter” side of stem cells and regenerative medicine. Every Friday, we will bring you cartoons, photos, videos and other content that may be just as thought provoking as the written submissions that you are used to finding here, but they definitely won’t be blogs.

As always, we welcome your feedback and we also welcome suitable submissions. Be creative! Use the right (!) side of your brain. Make us laugh! Let’s see if we can make this new direction a positive one for all of us. Send your submission to info(at)ccrm.ca.
