Do you listen to The Stem Cell Podcast? If not, why not? Last September, former Signals co-editor Lisa Willemse blogged about the podcast, which, at the time, was celebrating its first anniversary.

The hosts and creators behind the podcast are celebrating another milestone: their 50th episode. For this special occasion, they interviewed George Daley of Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. (Dr. Daley has been featured before on Signals. You can read the interesting article from Paul Krzyzanowski, about “Detective Daley,” here.)

The hour-long podcast is worth listening to in its entirety. However, if you prefer to listen to the Daley interview only, it begins at around 32 minutes, with the introduction to the interview beginning at 30:30.

Naturally Dr. Daley discusses pediatric stem cell transplants – he is the director of that program at the hospital where he works – but he also covers clinical translation and commercialization, and his optimism for where the field is headed. For example, he expects we’ll see a huge upswing in clinical translation within 3-5 years.

The interview ends with Dr. Daley covering the ethics of stem cell research at around 55 minutes and what has him excited, at 58 mins. (I’m not telling. You’ll have to listen for yourself.)
