Justin Trudeau, Canada’s “hot” new prime minister, is getting Canadian scientists all worked up – in a good way. For the first time in nearly ten years, the scientific community has a passionate champion in Ottawa ready to undress – sorry unmuzzle – federal scientists and “bring scientific considerations into all aspects of their decision making” (The Globe and Mail, Nov. 28, 2015). From now on, these underappreciated, neglected government scientists can strip away their reservations and share their findings directly with the public to unburden themselves. Now, what is sexier than full disclosure and honesty?
As a tribute to Canada’s new favourite Justin (sorry Biebs) and Maclean’s 2015 newsmaker of the year, I am inspired by another Justin from the south who brought “sexy back.”
